How to spin the wheel
- Add your entries. Type or paste one name or option per line in the Entries box, up to 1,000. Templates has quick starts: names, numbers, letters A–Z, lunch ideas, meeting roles and chores.
- Press Spin. Click Spin, tap the wheel or press Space. The spinning wheel ticks past each slice and stops under the pointer on the right. Skip (or S) shows the result at once.
- Remove the winner or spin again. The banner names the winner. Remove “Priya” takes that entry off the wheel, with Undo; Spin again keeps everyone in.
- Share. Press Share, then Copy link. Anyone who opens the link gets the same entries and settings.
- Present. Press Present (or F) for a full-screen wheel and a big result on a projector or a shared screen. Esc or F takes you back.
What people use the wheel spinner for
Use it as a random name wheel for your team, or as a random wheel generator for any list of options.
- Stand-ups and retros: spin the team list to decide who gives the first update or who takes notes this week.
- Workshops and trainings: put discussion questions on a random spinner wheel, so the room picks the next one instead of the host.
- Streams: turn viewer suggestions or challenges into a live spin-the-wheel game, with the Night theme and a transparent OBS view.
- Chores at home: dishes, laundry or trash duty. A wheel everyone watched ends the “you always pick me” debate.
- Dinner and party choices: pizza or ramen, which game is next, who starts. The Lunch ideas template gets you going.
Need groups instead? Split the list into teams.
Wheel settings explained
Customize your spin wheel in the Settings tab; your choices stay saved in this browser.
- Use weights: end a line with
*N(0.1 to 100), such asPizza *3, to make it more likely. Slices always match the chances, and Show chance prints the percentages. - Remove winner after each spin: the last winner leaves the wheel at the next spin. Restore all under Removed brings everyone back.
- Spin until one left (⋯ menu): one entry drops out per round until one is left. Copy elimination order in Results copies the order. Or put everyone in a random order without the show.
- Spin length: Instant, Short (3 s), Normal (6 s), Long (10 s) or custom 1–30 seconds. It changes the show, never the odds.
- Theme and title: five themes, including Night for streams and Custom colors. The Wheel title shows above the wheel and in full screen.
- Sound and confetti: a tick per slice, a chime for the winner and a volume slider. If your device asks for reduced motion, results appear at once without confetti.
How we pick the winner
When you press Spin, your browser’s secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) picks the winner first, and each entry’s chance equals the size of its slice. Only then does the wheel start turning, and the animation is steered to stop on that entry. The pointer, the speed and the moment you click change nothing, so nobody can time a click or rig the wheel. We also throw away the rare random values that would favor some entries, so every slice gets exactly its share. Check fairness under How we pick runs 100,000 test spins of your own wheel.
Spin the wheel on a big screen or a stream
Present fills the screen with the wheel and a large result, and keeps the screen awake where the browser allows it. On wide screens, Edit entries opens the list in a side drawer without leaving full screen. Presenting slides? Keep the wheel open in your browser, switch to it with Alt+Tab (⌘+Tab on a Mac) and press F.
For streams, open Share and choose Stream (OBS). Pick a transparent or green background, the banner position and how long the result stays, then add the URL as a Browser source (1080 × 1080 works well). The Embed tab gives you iframe code to put this spin-the-wheel generator on your own website.
Save and share your wheel
This wheel maker needs no account. Your current wheel saves automatically in this browser, and My wheels keeps up to 50 named wheels for different groups. A share link packs the whole wheel into the part of the address after #, which browsers don’t send to any server. Anyone with the link can read the entries, though, so share private lists with care. Clear my data at the bottom of every page deletes everything this site saved in your browser.
After the page loads, spinning, saving and sharing work even if your connection drops, and a reload brings your last wheel back.
Only two options? Flip a coin, or use the yes or no wheel for a question with Maybe and best-of-3 series.
Tips for fair group decisions
- Agree on the rule first: one spin decides, or best of three.
- Show the list first so everyone can check their name appears once. Remove duplicates ignores capital letters and extra spaces.
- For turn orders, use Remove winner after each spin, so nobody goes twice before everyone has had a turn.
- Need three names? Draw several names without repeats.
- If you use weights, say so: Show chance shows everyone the odds.
- The Results tab logs every wheel spin with its time. Copy it or save a CSV file.
FAQ
Is this random wheel spinner really fair?
Yes. The winner comes from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same kind of source used for security keys, and each entry's chance equals its slice. We also remove the small bias that simple random code can have. Press Check fairness under the wheel to test 100,000 spins of your own list.
Can anyone rig the wheel?
No. The winner is chosen before the wheel moves, so the speed, the pointer and the moment you click change nothing. There is no hidden setting that favors an entry. The only way to change the odds is a visible weight such as *3, and Show chance prints the exact percentages for everyone to see.
How many names can I put on the wheel?
Up to 1,000 entries of up to 80 characters each. Extra lines are ignored with a message, and longer entries are shortened. With hundreds of names the slices get thin and some labels are hidden, but every entry keeps its full chance and the winner always appears in large text below the wheel.
Can I remove the winner after each spin?
Yes. Press the Remove button in the result banner (or the R key) to take the winner off the wheel, with Undo for ten seconds. Turn on Remove winner after each spin in Settings to do it automatically. Removed entries are listed under Removed, and Restore all puts them back.
Can I make one entry more likely than the others?
Yes, with weights. Turn on Use weights in Settings, then end a line with an asterisk and a number from 0.1 to 100, such as Pizza *3. That entry becomes three times as likely as an entry without a weight, and its slice grows to match, so the wheel always shows the real odds.
How do I save or share my wheel?
Your current wheel saves itself in this browser, and My wheels keeps up to 50 named wheels. To share, press Share and then Copy link. The link contains your entries and settings, so whoever opens it sees the same wheel. Nothing is uploaded and you don't need an account.
Can I make a random number wheel, like 1 to 100?
Yes. Open Templates, choose Numbers…, enter 1 in From and 100 in To, and press Use these numbers. Ranges can run from −9,999 to 9,999 with up to 1,000 values. Turn on Remove winner after each spin if every number should come up only once.
Can I use the wheel in OBS or on a stream?
Yes. Press Share and open Stream (OBS) to copy a URL with a transparent or green background, then add it in OBS as a Browser source. The result shows as a large banner for as many seconds as you choose. Use Interact in OBS to click the wheel, or press Space, to spin live.
