About Unbiased Wheel

Updated November 2, 2026

Unbiased Wheel is a free kit of browser tools for making a choice in front of a group: spin a wheel of names, draw a few names from a list, split people into teams, flip a coin, roll dice or run a gift exchange. It is built for the person holding the remote — team leads, trainers, streamers, party hosts, club organizers and families — who needs a result that everyone in the room accepts.

Who builds it

I’m Tanveer Azam Ansari, and I build and maintain Unbiased Wheel on my own. I write the code, test every tool on phones, laptops and big screens, and write the help text on each page. If something is wrong, it’s on me to fix it, so please tell me.

Why this site exists

Picking someone in front of a group is surprisingly delicate. If the person running the screen chooses, people wonder about favorites. Many online pickers handle the “random” part but explain nothing, ask you to create an account, or keep your lists on their servers. Unbiased Wheel tries to do the opposite: show how every pick is made, keep your lists on your own device, and stay fast and clean enough for a meeting room or a live stream.

How the tools pick

Every result comes from your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, the same source browsers use for security keys. The tools use rejection sampling, so no option gets a tiny head start from rounding. The result is decided before any animation starts: a spinning wheel or a flipping coin only shows a decision that has already been made, so nobody can stop the wheel “at the right moment”. There are no hidden weights and no rigging options. When a tool lets you give an option more weight, the size of its slice shows its real chance.

Privacy by design

The tools run entirely in your browser. Names, lists and settings stay on your device: saved items live in your browser’s local storage under keys that start with decision:, and every page has a Clear my data button. Share links carry your list in the part of the address after the #, which browsers never send to a server. The privacy policy explains the details, including how ads and analytics work.

Accessibility

Every tool is built to work with a keyboard alone, announces results to screen readers, and respects your device’s reduced-motion setting by showing results without animation.
