Dice notation explained
Dice notation describes a roll in a few characters. 2d6 means two six-sided dice: the number before the d is how many dice, the number after it the sides. d20 is one twenty-sided die, and d% a percentile die from 1 to 100. Add or subtract numbers or more dice with + and -: 1d8+1d6+2. To keep only the best dice, add kh (keep highest) and a count, or kl to keep the lowest. 4d6kh3 rolls four dice and keeps the three highest, for a total from 3 to 18, about 12.2 on average; an 18 comes up only 1.6% of the time. Roll it six times for D&D-style character stats. One roll holds up to 200 dice, up to 100 of one kind per group, with 2 to 1,000 sides each.
D20 dice roller: advantage and disadvantage
Many tabletop games let a character roll twice in good or bad situations. Choose Advantage to roll two 20-sided dice and keep the higher result, or Disadvantage to keep the lower one. It works whenever the roll contains a single d20, so 1d20+5 becomes 2d20kh1+5 with advantage. Both dice stay visible, with the dropped one greyed out and crossed through. Advantage matters: a plain d20 roller gives 11 or more half the time, advantage 75% of the time, and the average rises from 10.5 to about 13.8. At least one 20 shows up in 9.75% of advantage rolls instead of 5%.
Online color dice and custom dice
Switch to Custom die to roll faces you define. Colors (6) gives red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, shown with a color swatch and the name on every face, so the result is clear for color-blind players too. Directions (4) gives up, down, left and right for movement games. Or type your own faces, one per line, with an optional color code after the label (such as Red #DC2626), and roll up to 10 custom dice at once.
Dice for board games and tabletop RPGs
Need to roll a dice online for a board game or a dice game? This digital dice roller covers any combination, from 2d6 for classic board games to 8d6 for a big hit in a role-playing game. With 2d6, a 7 comes up 1 time in 6, a 2 or a 12 only once in 36, and doubles 1 time in 6. It works well for D&D-style games and other tabletop RPGs (Unbiased Wheel is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast or Dungeons & Dragons). Playing over a video call? Share your screen and press F: Present shows big dice and the total. For whole teams, use the team generator; for any other choice, the wheel spinner.
How each die is rolled
When you press Roll, this random dice roller decides every die first with your browser’s secure random generator (crypto.getRandomValues): a die with N sides gets a whole number from 1 to N, drawn with rejection sampling so every side has exactly the same chance. The tumble only shows random faces for fun and stops on the dice already rolled. Nothing you roll leaves your device. For a plain number in any range, use the random number generator; for a two-way decision, flip a coin.
FAQ
How do I roll a d20 online?
Press Clear tray, tap d20 and press Roll or the Space bar. You can also type d20 or 1d20 into the Dice field. The die shows its number, the total appears in large type, and the roll is added to History. Press Roll again for the next one.
What does 2d6+3 mean?
It means roll two six-sided dice and add 3. With dice of 4 and 2 the total is 4 + 2 + 3 = 9; the lowest possible total is 5 and the highest 15. The breakdown under the total shows exactly that, and the info line shows the range and the average, 10.0 in this case.
How do advantage and disadvantage work?
With advantage you roll two d20 and keep the higher one; with disadvantage you keep the lower one. Choose Advantage or Disadvantage when the roll contains a single d20, such as 1d20+5. Both dice are shown, and the one that doesn't count is greyed out and crossed through. The A, D and N keys switch modes.
Is there a color dice roller?
Yes. Switch to Custom die and choose Colors (6) for a die with red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple faces; every result shows the color and its name. Directions (4) gives up, down, left and right. You can also type your own faces, one per line, and roll up to 10 custom dice at once.
Can I roll many dice at once?
Yes, up to 200 dice in one roll, with up to 100 of one kind per group, such as 100d6+100d6. Tap a die several times or use the + and − buttons in the tray. Every die is shown with its own value; with more than 30 dice they switch to compact number chips so the total stays easy to read.
Does the dice roller work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded, these are offline dice: rolling, saved rolls and history all run in your browser without an internet connection, so a weak signal at the table won't stop you. To open the page again after closing it, you need a connection.
Is a virtual dice roller fair?
Yes. Each dice roll comes from your browser's cryptographic random number generator with a method that gives every side exactly the same chance, and the result is decided before the tumble animation starts. Real dice can be slightly uneven from manufacturing; these can't be, and there is no setting that weights a side.
Can I roll a d3, a d2 or other unusual dice?
Yes. Type 1d3, d2 or d7 into the Dice field: any die from 2 to 1,000 sides works, alone or mixed with others, such as 2d3+1d7. Dice without a classic shape, like 3-sided dice, show as rounded squares with their number, and the total, breakdown and range work as for any other roll.
