How to make a round robin schedule
- Enter the teams or players, one per line, in Teams or players (one per line). Up to 40 fit; repeated names get a number so they stay apart.
- Choose the format: Single round robin (everyone meets once) or Double round robin (everyone meets twice).
- Press Generate schedule. Every round appears with its matches. Leave Shuffle participants on for a random order, or switch it off to keep the order you typed.
- Set the courts. By default all matches of a round run at once; lower the number if you have fewer courts, and call them Court, Field, Table or Board.
- Add times if you like. Open Times for a Start time, Match length (min), Break (min) and Date.
How the schedule is built
A round robin is a format where every team plays every other team once; the winner is the team with the most points. The generator uses the circle method: one team stays put while the others rotate one place each round, and teams opposite each other play. After n − 1 rounds every pair has met once, and nobody has played twice in a round.
With an odd number of teams, an empty place joins the circle, and whoever meets it has a bye; each team gets exactly one. Home and away are balanced: with an even number of teams they differ by one per team, with an odd number they are equal. The first-named team in a match is at home.
| Teams | Rounds | Matches | Double: rounds / matches |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 | 6 | 6 / 12 |
| 5 | 5 | 10 | 10 / 20 |
| 6 | 5 | 15 | 10 / 30 |
| 7 | 7 | 21 | 14 / 42 |
| 8 | 7 | 28 | 14 / 56 |
| 12 | 11 | 66 | 22 / 132 |
Shuffle participants uses your browser’s secure random generator, crypto.getRandomValues, so no line order is favored (how the tools pick).
Courts, times and breaks
With more matches than courts, a round splits into time slots: 12 teams have 6 matches per round, so 3 courts need 2 slots. With an 18:00 start, 15-minute matches and 5-minute breaks, round 1 plays at 18:00 and 18:20, and round 2 starts at 18:40. The summary above the schedule then shows when the last match ends: 6 teams on 3 courts run 18:00–19:35, and an event that goes past midnight is marked “(+1 day)”.
Scores and standings
Type each result into the two boxes of a match; the first box is the home team. A match counts as played once both scores are in, and Clear empties it again. The Standings table updates as you type, with Played, Won, Drawn, Lost, goals For and Against, the Difference and Pts.
Points are Win 3, Draw 1, Loss 0 unless you change them under Points. Ties on points go to head-to-head points among exactly the tied teams, then goal difference, then goals scored; teams still equal share the rank, shown as “=3”.
Single vs double round robin
A single round robin fits a one-evening event: 6 teams play 5 rounds, 8 teams play 7. A double round robin suits a league over several weeks, where every pair meets twice and home and away swap for the second meeting; 6 teams then play 10 rounds and 30 matches. Print it once and the league has its fixture list for the season.
Pickleball and doubles
For pickleball, padel or table-tennis doubles with fixed partners, enter each pair as one line, such as “Ana & Ben”, and the schedule treats the pair as one team. Rotating partners, where the pairs change every round, isn’t built in. With 12–15-minute games and 5-minute breaks, 8 pairs on 4 courts play all 7 rounds in about two hours.
Print or share the schedule
Print gives you a printable schedule: every round and the standings on portrait pages. Copy schedule copies plain text for a chat, and Download schedule CSV and Download standings CSV open in any spreadsheet. Share makes a link that carries the teams, times and scores after the # in the address, so nothing is uploaded, but anyone with the link can see the names. Present shows the current round large beside the standings; the arrow keys change the round. The round robin generator saves your schedule in this browser, and My schedules keeps up to 20 named copies.
Prefer a knockout? The bracket maker builds single and double elimination brackets. Make balanced sides first with the team generator, set a random playing order with the list randomizer, roll for serve with the dice roller, or let the wheel spinner decide who picks the first court.
FAQ
How does a round robin schedule work?
In a round robin, every team plays every other team once. The generator lists who plays whom in each round, and nobody plays twice in a round. With 6 teams there are 5 rounds of 3 matches, 15 in all. Type the scores as games finish and the standings update straight away.
How many rounds does a round robin have?
With an even number of teams, a single round robin has one round fewer than teams: 8 teams play 7 rounds. With an odd number it has as many rounds as teams, because one team rests each round: 7 teams play 7 rounds. There are n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 matches in all.
What happens with an odd number of teams?
Each round, one team gets a bye and sits out. Every team gets exactly one bye in a single round robin, so the rest is shared fairly. The bye is shown under each round, for example “Bye: Gus”, and it does not count as a win or a loss in the standings.
Can I schedule games on several courts at once?
Yes. Set the number of courts, fields, tables or boards from 1 to 20. If a round has more matches than courts, it is split into time slots. Add a start time, a match length and a break under Times, and each match gets its own time, such as “18:20 · Court 2”.
How are ties in the standings broken?
Teams level on points are first sorted by the points they won in the games between just those teams (head-to-head). If they are still level, goal difference decides, then goals scored. Teams that are equal on all four share a rank, shown as “=3”, and are listed alphabetically.
Can everyone play each other twice?
Yes. Choose Double round robin and every pair meets twice, with home and away swapped the second time. Six teams then play 10 rounds and 30 matches. In both formats home and away games are balanced, so no team gets far more home games than another.
Can I print the schedule?
Yes. Print puts every round and the standings on portrait pages, without the rest of the page. You can also copy the schedule as text, download it or the standings as a CSV file, or share a link that opens the same schedule and scores on another device.
